T O P I C R E V I E Wvenusdeindiai know this thread should be in the Health forum, but in really need help.my mom was diagnosed with crohn's after a colonoscopy and the blood tests.at the time of the diagnosis, she was suffering from mild pain in her lower abdomen , constipation and discharge.after the diagnosis she has been consistently taking her staple medication of mesalamine,Pregabalin, mahagaba ( a combination of pregabalin and methycobalamin ), probiotic bacterial supplements and vitamin B complex.since the commencement of this standard treatment, which is common to most Crohns patients, her condition has progressively worsened. she is now complaining of symptoms characteristic of somene who is in an advanced state of the disease.at the time of diagnosis , the colonoscopy revealed 2 ulcers , and intestinal inflammation.we are yet to do another colonoscopy ,but now she can barely sit because of the pain in her colon. Crohns disease is as of yet rare in India, ulcerative colitis is more prevalent. there are only 3 doctors who are treating patients suffering from Crohns.they dont have much practical experience, or the time to concentrate on a single patient.there is a lot of material on the net , but i want some personal opinions and suggestions.also any alternative therapies are welome. there is a dire lack of alternative therapists , except ayurveda in India. besides, no alternative therapist i have spoken to has even heard of Crohns.my mom is in constant pain and we are considering terminating treatment, because her conditions have only worsened since the medical treatment was comenced.any personal experiences involving friends, family are welcome. fayte.m I sympathize. It runs heavily in my family.Does she suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy also?Is she a diabetic?Often pregabalin and methycobalaminare given for Peripheral Neuropathy painor pain from shingles.Methylcobalamin: is a form of Vitamin B-12pregabalin: is an AnticonvulsantsDoes she have B12 deficiency from not having the Intrinsic factor?Gastric conditions contributing to B12 deficiency include various stomach diseases that impair release of B12 from food or production of intrinsic factor.I must get B12 injections myself. They help a little with my conditions. It seems to alleviate the internal bleeding and resulting anemia.A good article on Chrohn's Disease is here: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/crohns/ Bismuth & Antibiotics might possibly help.It is a treatment for ulcers; It worked for me personally.(well for the ulcers but not the rest. ..)Stay clear of Zelnorm. It can cause strokes and caused me to have 3 plus other minor TIAs.And actually worsened my other conditions. Dicyclomine used to treat IBS can help some too.Or Hydroxyzine...but both have side effects which I have not liked personally.MirandeeI'm sorry about your mom, venusdeindia. I hope the doctors find a treatment that improves her condition and very soon so that she can have relief from the pain and distress she is suffering. I have IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome)which is no where near as bad as Crohn's Disease and that causes enough pain and distress certain days so my heart goes out to your mom. I know how worrisome and hard it must be for you and your whole family to feel so helpless to do anything to relieve her pain. God bless you all. My thoughts and prayers are with your mom and the whole family. drmundewadiYou can get some info about Ayurvedic treatment of Crohn's Disease at www.ayurvedaphysician.com
